Led by Hakainde Hichilema, we have participated in several elections, with notable achievements such as finishing second in the 2001 general elections and becoming the second largest party in the National Assembly at that time. After Mazoka's passing, Hichilema took over as party leader and consistently ran as the presidential candidate, increasing our representation in the National Assembly.

In a significant turn of events, in the 2021 General Election, our party secured a majority in the National Assembly, marking a historic moment after nearly 23 years in opposition. Hichilema was re-elected as our party's president, and Mutale Nalumango joined as his running mate. Committed to addressing the concerns of young people, we established the UPND Youth League and proudly became the first political party in Africa to sign a social contract with the youth, demonstrating our dedication to their interests and aspirations.
